The 5 Project {Alexandria Va Children’s Photographer}

I am very excited to announce a very important collaboration! Over a year ago, a group of women photographers in the area and I, started a monthly gathering. Just the 5 of us geeking out over our passion for photography.  We shared ideas, discussed styles, critiqued work, and went on magical photography excursions with our kids together.  I have learned so much from these women and not just skills on a technical level but I learned so much about myself. These women not only inspire me, but they continue to push me to become a better photographer, a better parent, a stronger person and they’ve become a very solid support system.

Throughout the year, we had a chance to work together so it was a very natural progression to start working on bigger projects, which led to the creation of The 5 Project.  The 5 Project will take on larger jobs that Gena Roma Photography can’t handle on it’s own such as large scale events, weddings, preschool portraits, and community projects.

We have an upcoming project with Old City Press & Co. in Old Town Alexandria. I have a big announcement on this event on Wednesday so stay tuned!

Meanwhile, feast your eyes on Old City Press & Co.’s space.  They are a letterpress printing company and design studio. Stop by to purchase paper goods or better yet, join one of their letterpress workshops. Visit them for more information!

Cheryl The Soccer Mom

She’s tall, she’s beautiful, she’s funny, and she’s smart. Cheryl the Soccer Mom is what she’s known in the comedy world. She’s a regular at Old Town Sacramento’s comedy club, Laughs Unlimited. She also travels the world making everyone laugh including our well deserved troops. Not only is Cheryl successful in comedy, she is also a savvy business woman. Before plunging into the comedy scene, Cheryl Anderson was the woman behind WAHM.com, which is resource for Work At Home Moms. This website gained national attention from Forbes, USA today and perhaps the biggest name in business-Oprah. A few years and a couple books later, she sold the website and now focuses on her comedy. You can read more about Cheryl in bonnie Magazine‘s February issue which she was on the cover of and I was so fortunate enough to be a part of. Here are my faves from my session with Cheryl.  I absolutely love that I caught Cheryl’s reaction when she was finally able to see herself glammed up by the talented Chrisi Reynolds.  Aren’t her vintage garb amazing?!  You may just see that beautiful pink coat on a very popular recording artist one of these days.

Beautiful Accordion Albums Now Available {Northern Va High School Photographer}

IMG_4263_0005 copy

I love when I receive products in the mail.  I was especially excited when this arrived.  This is a 4×8 Accordion Album I started offering this year. Aren’t they fabulous? I just think they’re such a fun way share your favorite photographs with your family and friends. They’re compact when closed and is the perfect size to fit in your bag, stand on your desk or give them as a gift.  Beautiful pearl paper adds just the right touch.

Bonnie Magazine {Washington DC Editorial Photographer}

If you’re familiar with my work, you know I like my photographs to have an editorial flavor. I’m just drawn to the “magazine” look.  This probably stems from reading fashion magazines at a very young age.  Before my sisters and I discovered Seventeen Magazine, we perused Avon catalogs and anything fashion or beauty related, even if that meant the Macy’s weekend ad.  I think when I was younger these fashion magazines were just that, a glimpse of the fashion world and the glamour the pages evoked. Today,  when I look at a magazine, it’s not just for latest trends and topics.  When I pick up any magazine, I find myself studying the light and composition of the photographs. They’re a mini art gallery in my eyes.

When the oppotunity arose to shoot the fashion spread for Bonnie Magazine’s inaugural issue, I was beside myself.  Bonnie is the first woman centric magazine with a focus on bringing women together in the Sacramento, Ca area.  I went to college in Sacramento, got married there, and lived in the quaint East Sacramento neighborhood for many years. I loved that the Bonnie concept would be sharing the highlights,  hidden gems,  and important women of this magnificent city and was honored to be part of it.

The shoot centered around modern dresses featuring a local Sacramento favorite, Krazy Mary’s Boutique.  I love the contrast of feminine amidst a rustic or run-down background making the  hauntingly beautiful, dilapidated warehouses in the old section of The Old Sugar Mill Winery an ideal setting.  The models were fabulous, the make up by Christi Reynolds was flawless, and the location had all the textures and beautiful, natural light a photographer could ever ask for. As for the Bonnie staff, they were as pleasant, funny, and creative as I had hoped.

So, here’s a quick video of the shoot and some of my favorites (there are alot!).  To read Sacramento’s first woman-centric magazine and to view the spread, visit Bonnie for a digital copy or pick one up at a location near you.

Beautiful Eyes Book Launch {Washington DC Commercial Photographer}

It was a nice change of pace to get out of the Metro DC area and especially love it when work takes me to California. From the Beautiful Eyes Book Launch to family visits I was pretty busy in California.

One event I covered this summer was the Beautiful Eyes Book Launch at the San Francisco Main Public Library. I may be biased because the author is my sister, but this is a great children’s book not only because it’s a great introduction to tagalog but the illustration is magnificent. I’ve come across plenty of tagalog children’s books but this one is truly geared towards parents who want to learn tagalog along with their children, accompanied with beautiful and unique aesthetic. This book will be part of San Francisco Unified School District’s Filipino Language Program curriculum. It will be the first book kindergartners will read. Amazing! To purchase this book, visit Meritage Press. For more information on Gayle Romasanta, you can visit her here.

Simply Couture Events Bridal Showcase {Alexandria Va Wedding Photographer}

I was the official photographer for the Simply Couture Events, LLC Bridal Showcase this past weekend.  I had a great time meeting brides-to-be and getting to know vendors in the area.  I also had some fun shooting the models from Amy’s Bridal Boutique.  All the models were AMAZING.  And the gowns?  well, see for yourself. Absolutely stunning!

Belle Mode Intimates Grand Opening

If you’re in Northern Virginia, Belle Mode Intimates is the intimate apparel store you’ll want to visit.  They’ve got a great selection in store and if you need a size thats hard to find, they can order it.  They have every color and every size under the sun.  I kid you not.  You’ll find beautifully made fine intimate apparel, some from Italy.

I had the honor of photographing the grand opening for Belle Mode Intimates. I’d say it was a success.  There was a great turn out and I met some pretty incredible ladies there.  Here’s the video I created and of course the photos.
