Super Kaheem Saves DC

Super Kaheem Saves DC

It was such an honor to photograph Make-A-Wish® Mid Atlantic’s special event in December.  Stacey Flint Photography, Carrie Keene Photography and I were the official photographers for the special Super Kaheem Saves DC event and for months, during the planning stages, we had to keep this all this underwraps. When the day finally came to see this through we were excited! This wish was spectacular and it was all in the name of Kaheem.  Kaheem is 5 years old and is battling leukemia. For one day, Kaheem was a superhero, saving others and doing good. He first had to drink a superhero potion and was then whisked off to meet his favorite heros. The rest was Make-A-Wish history. We followed Kaheem all day on December 16th as he dashed through the Washington DC metro area to save the day. It really took so many people to make this wish come to fruition. From local fire and police departments, Paul Ryan’s staff,  the city of National Harbor, the Newseum staff,  and so many others not to mention the crowds of people who attended to wish Kaheem well. The wish was a success and everyone came together to make sure it was a perfect day for Kaheem.

And what a super, amazing day it was! Kaheem carried out his missions perfectly which included saving Santa at National Harbor’s ferris wheel, finding a lost flag in the United States Capitol, capturing the grinch at the National Theater and saving local sports mascots at the Newseum. I loved how Kaheem squealed with delight and giggled throughout the day. His enthusiasm and joy was infectious! So was his smile! There were so many kind strangers who joined Kaheem throughout the day just to show their support and to encourage him. This was televised by Washington DC’s Fox 5 all day and it didn’t take long for everyone to notice! With tweets from Vice President Biden and The Rock himself, this was huge!  Everyone just genuinely wanted to make this boy happy and it warmed my heart on that very cold day in December. Here are just a few photos I took.

A Birthday Party To Remember

I thought I’d finally share some images of NBC 4’s  Angie Goff’s son’s 3rd Birthday party. This took place at Busy Bees, one of my favorite places for little ones because it’s tailored just for little ones but also because they have amazing custom parties. If you have a theme in mind, my friend, Natalia will deliver! And when I say deliver, she will go above and beyond your expectations.  Exhibit A- Bob’s At The Bottom Of The Sea Party.  To see more images from this fun filled party you can visit Angie’s blog.

Animal Welfare League of Alexandria Art Show

animal welfare league of Alexandria art art show

The Animal Welfare League of Alexandria hosted an art show: Saving Lives through the Shelter’s Lenses,  which showcased the work of their volunteer photographers.  I’m proud to be featured  alongside 5 other  photographers. At least once a month I photograph  adoptable animals in a way that appeals to potential forever families and have been doing so since 2014. You may have seen photographs on AWLA’s Facebook Page.  It takes quite a bit of work; usually involving 2-3 other animal welfare league dog or cat specialists.  There’s never a dull moment and it’s always lots of fun. The art show ends tomorrow, January 31st. Incase you missed it here are some photos showcased. A big thank you to the Animal Welfare League for letting me be a part of their great organization.

BusyBees Indoor Playground

Busy Bees Indoor Playground

BusyBees indoor playground is finally opening Saturday, July 25th and it’s glorious!! I was lucky enough to get a sneak peek of the space and snapped a few photos to share with you all.  What exactly is BusyBees?  It’s an innovative, unique, indoor, soft playground for little ones under 48″.   What’s so special about BusyBees indoor playground you say? Well, for one thing, we don’t currently have a hip, modern indoor playground designed for just little ones in our area.  Not only that, this indoor playground is interactive! There’s movement and sound and lights and oh so much more! Parents, you can sit back, relax, take a seat, and plug in.  There’s a seat just for you so you can stay connected. Worried about germs.  A germ factory this is not! They clean the entire facility every 3 hours.  It’s pretty amazing, right? Well it gets better! You can even host birthday parties there! And if you need photographs of your special day, I’m the official photographer:)  Check out these photos and a quick video I took. And for more reasons to love this place, click here.

The Purple Goose {Alexandria Va Photographer}

At the end of the last year I had the opportunity to do a photo shoot at The Purple Goose,  Alexandria’s premier children’s clothing store, located in the heart of Del Ray, Alexandria Va.   If you live in Alexandria, I’m sure you’ve been in the store.   The staff is extremely friendly. All. The. Time! I go there because not only do they have clothes you can’t find anywhere else but for their great customer service and always lively conversation with staff.  By luck one day I was chatting with Linda, one of the owners, and discovered that their photographer had moved out of town. And talk about being at the right place at the right time, we ended up coming together to create the first ever Purple Goose Holiday Collection series. As you can see from the images below, they had the most amazing holiday dresses for little girls with the frills and the texture and matching jackets, we just had show them off! Those of you with little girls can relate to my oohs and ahhs, and I may have squealed at the pink frilly numbers. But I digress. Today I wanted to share even more Purple Goose good news!  I am the official photographer for The Purple Goose and we’re teaming up for a pretty spectacular spring project. We are looking to you, Purple Goose fans, to help us create our first on-line Purple Goose Magazine.  The magazine will be a look book for spring and summer wear as well as articles from local vendors.  We need models;  1 to 12 years old to showcase the spring and summer clothing lines.   What better models than The Purple Goose fans!  If you’d like to enter your child in our model search here are the details:

Baby Ethan {Alexandria VA Newborn Photographer}

Every time I have a newborn photography session, I swoon. Newborn sessions are one of the most difficult sessions yet I love doing them. The fact that I’m the one chosen to photograph this little person for his debut is really quite an honor.  It’s hard not to love what I do.  Baby Ethan was only a few days old when we met.  He had his first full night’s sleep the night before so I wasn’t sure if he would be awake for our morning session.  Baby calls the shots on all newborn sessions and if  baby isn’t ready for the session, we wait.  And wait…and wait.  We rock. Mom feeds. And we wait some more.  In the end, it’s always.  Always! Worth it.  Now back to beautiful baby Ethan. Isn’t he a beautiful,  sweet, boy?  His biggest fan by far is his big sister.  Just look how smitten she is!  Mom and Dad are fans, too; beaming with pride and thankful for their beautiful family.

Thip Khao {Washington DC Photographer}

Haven’t yet heard of Thip Khao restaurant by Chef Seng? It’s the new restaurant darling of Washington DC and it recently opened.  It’s getting rave reviews! You can view the Washington Post write up here and more here. This is the second restaurant for Chef Seng, who opened Bangkok Golden in Falls Church in  2010.  Not surprising,  Bankok Golden too has received equally great reviews as seen in the Washingtonian Magazine‘s  100 Very Best Restaurants of 2014.

Before Thip Khao’s grand opening, Chef Seng invited Monks from Wat Lao Buddavong to bless the new restaurant.  The private ceremony took place with a handful of invitees.  I’m not buddhist but I do believe in their positive message and teaching. During the event, there was chanting, offering, and a bracelet ceremony where the monks bless you and adorn you with a bracelet they’ve made and blessed.  Although I was there to work, I was able to receive a bracelet. I truly felt a spiritual connection. Buddhism comes from the work ‘budhi’ which mean awaken which is exactly how I felt after the experience. I feel so fortunate to have photographed such a beautiful and spiritual event.  Thank you Chef Seng and Thip Khao for allowing me to share your special day and for sharing your delicious food.

Food Love {Alexandria Va Foodie Photographer}

One of my first sessions in studio was a foodie one with this beautiful lady. This is Miemo from Miemonster Chronicles. She’s a local food blogger who I met by chance at one of my favorite Old Town Alexandria coffee shops.  Above being a smart , creative, and driven, she can cook! In celebration of fall, she prepared one of my fall favorites, butternut squash soup and the pièce de résistance, pumpkin creme brûlée.  Now, she doesn’t claim to be a chef but  her blog and the  passion for the culinary world she exudes makes you believe otherwise.  Her blog doesn’t stop at just food, there’s a great mix of her everyday life with her doting husband and her faithful and very adorable fur baby, Bawse. Whether it’s traveling, seeking new restaurants, cooking, or eating, Miemo is a great example of someone who truly enjoys everything life has to offer.  At the end our the session we sat down and savored her delicious dishes. I still have dreams about that hearty soup.   The food was fantastic, my company even more so with a joie de vivre that is so infectious! I can get used to being a foodie photographer:)

The W Family { Alexandria Va Family Photographer}

I’m an Alexandria Va photographer but I find myself in California once a year for a few weeks to visit family and to do a little work.  But really, photographing friends and family is hardly work. For  me it’s really fun making connections with old friends and making new ones.   Some  sessions are referrals from family and friends, while others are sessions with friends from the past.  Since I’m now on the east cost, these old friendships stay alive with Facebook such as with the W Family. I haven’t seen my friend, Jenny,  in years but I love that we were able to stay in touch and share photos, even when we’re miles apart.   With this session, it felt as if it was a reunion.   I met Jenny’s beautiful family for the first time. They were funny and really so nice – exactly the kind of family what you would hope for a friend.   It’s so great catching up with friends after years have passed, especially when there’s a happy ending. Great husband. Check.  Beautiful and such nice kids. Check. Happy family. Check.  Looking fabulous.  Double check!
