NEWBORN FAQs

We get so excited when we hear our client is expecting. Briniging a baby into the world is an experience like no other and we absolutely love to preserve this wonderful time through photographs.  At Gena Roma Photography we are both photographer and family historian. Our goal is to capture this special moment and document all the beautiful newborn details that lasts only a little while. We create artistic and beautiful images that will reflect this magical phase in your baby’s life. We would be honored to be part of  your family’s new journey.

Our images are known for their timeless quality; photos from your session will become treasured family heirlooms that will be cherished for years to come.  We also offer safe poses that are natural to baby and we never place baby in a pose where there is ever a potential for injury.

To determine whether newborn portraits are for you, here are a few Newborn FAQs

How do you ensure safety?

Safety is our number 1 priority! Although some of our photos appear as if baby is suspended in the air, baby is actually never off the safety of our special newborn posing pad.  Our poses are simple, yet beautiful, and we always keep baby’s safety in mind.  We don’t offer portraits that physically suspend a baby from cloth or any other contraption, nor do we incorporate props such as glass, string lights, or other props that that can have the slightest possibility of being a potential hazard.

We like to keep our area clean for baby and family by using only baby safe cleaner.

When should I schedule my newborn session?

It’s never too early to book your newborn session to ensure a spot since we only schedule a limited number of sessions each month to allow plenty of time and attention for each client. When a session is booked, we’ll reserve an approximate time frame on our calendar that will be reserved for you with the actual date being selected once you deliver.

When is the best time to photograph my newborn?

It’s important to schedule newborn sessions BEFORE baby is 14 days old in order to capture them when they are at their smallest, and to get those cute, sleepy, curled up poses only newborns can do. Also, they sleep the soundest at this age, and newborn acne has not usually made its appearance yet.

What can I expect from my newborn session?

A typical session is approximately 3-4 hours long.  We take our time and work with baby’s schedule. We will stop for feeding time, diaper changes-anything baby needs.  Please don’t feel bad if it takes a while to get baby asleep. Don’t feel the need to rush a feeding. We take our time with newborns and this is why these sessions can last as long as 4 hours.

Poop and pee happens-on our blankets and props. We are prepared for it and expect it at every session.

Do you provide any props for the session?

Yes we do! This includes hats, blankets, wraps, headbands, baskets, buckets, bowls, etc.,

Where are you located?

Newborn sessions take place either at the Newborn Nest Studio in the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria.  Our private, intimate, newborn studio is filled with natural light, however, we also use artificial lighting for a crisp, sharp portrait.

Can you come to my home?

For an additional fee, we can travel to you.  Please note, certain requirements must be met for us to hold a session in your home.
